Using AI Tools for your UK Global Talent Visa application?

Don’t!

The UK Global Talent Visa Guidelines provide that:

The use of Artificial Intelligence and/or language processing tools (e.g. ChatGPT) within your application is not acceptable (e.g. the creation of Letters of Reference, Personal Statement, Evidence Documents, etc.).

The standard required for Global Talent endorsement requires that your application is created by the applicant. All referenced examples of work must also be accompanied by verifiable evidence (e.g. screenshots, press clippings, company-approved performance data, etc.) in order to qualify.

The use of AI or similar tools may weaken your application or potentially raise concerns regarding the validity of your application.

The stakes are too high to risk a refusal.

It may be tempting to use AI tools to draft personal statements or recommendation letters. However, assessors are highly experienced and can recognise:

  • Generic language
  • Repetitive phrasing
  • Words that are commonly used in AI Tools
  • Inflated, exaggerated or vague claims
  • Lack personalised details

Your application must reflect authentic experience, concrete achievements, and sector-specific examples. If your documents sound templated or exaggerated, your credibility will suffer.

Your content must:

  • Be evidence-based i.e. your evidence should show your work and your experts should validate and confirm it
  • Reflect your real achievements
  • Include your impact
  • Demonstrate your knowledge in the tech sector

Authenticity is critical. If an Assessor recognises that AI tools have been used, it will reduce your credibility and this may result in an unsuccessful decision.

Here is an example of real feedback from an Assessor when they suspected an applicant relied on AI tools in their application:

There were strong indications that elements of this application were written using AI tools.

This goes against the visa guidance and impacts on the credibility of the application.

Based on the above, the evidence provided is neither sufficient nor compelling to meet the criteria, and therefore, the applicant cannot be endorsed for this visa.

If you use AI Tools, you run the risk of reducing your credibility and an unsuccessful decision.

My advice? Don’t use it for your UK Global Talent Visa application.
